web design process paper

Project Title: Web Design Process

Understanding of design nuances for applications that the user controls brings a new level to the process. It requires options and thought into how a person may act or respond to stimulus that is not a factor in a single printed design.

Objective & Start

For this project, you will take the design principles discussed in class and develop a web page design for online ordering and an associated phone page that is appealing, easy to use, and interesting for the end user as well as the client.

Begin by choosing a small local company that has something to sell online. Write down the name and type of company plus answer the remaining questions on the company write up sheet. You will later type up the final information as a PDF.

Project Guidelines

Once the company is fixed, begin by writing concepts and thoughts about how to address the design of your site.

  • Do research on similar types of pages taking notes of what you see both good and bad.
  • Begin by writing out what needs to be included on the page and app. They may not necessarily both be the same.
  • Consider design elements and color harmonies that will support the concept of the page.

These thoughts will give you a set of guides to follow as you do your thumbnail sketches. Once you develop several ideas and layouts, you will create 2 comps (web page only) from the best concepts and designs. Do not neglect the thumbnails as it will directly affect your design quality.

You will need to design the full web page plus a phone page for the site. The phone page will be designed to match the main home page, but use a vertical scaling for easy viewing on a phone. Consider the limited space and smaller size for viewing.

After the comps are created, you will create one finished design of the web order page and the phone page. You will use Adobe Photoshop to create the site. With Photoshop, you must use good layers and create layer comps to show menu displays. When doing the page, try to find appropriate images or take your own if necessary. Feel free to collaborate with photography students. No copyrighted images.

In the end you will have two different web page design comps done on paper and photographed or scanned in. You will also have a digital finished proof of the web page and phone app.

This project will be shown to the class for critique.

Project Submission

You will turn in a PDF of your company write up, a PDF of your thumbnails and final comps, a PDF of the web site order page and phone page. In addition, you will include the Photoshop .psd file with layers and layer comps intact.

1.Arrow Furniture is a family-owned and operated manufacturer of high-end furniture located in North Carolina. The furniture industry has suffered from foreign competition over recent years. Nationwide, there have been massive layoffs and several large companies have closed. Arrow’s workers are feeling these pressures and have begun displaying counterproductive behaviors. The HR manager recently told Mary Baker, the family member serving as CEO, that employees are threatening to unionize if they don’t get higher pay and more job security. Mary is upset by this comment because the family has supported employees with decent salaries and health benefits. Higher wages are the last thing the company needs if they are to remain competitive.

The Baker family wants to turn things around. They know they will have to be more competitive price-wise. This might be achieved by finding cheaper suppliers, lowering employee labor costs, or increasing productivity. That said, the Baker’s strongly believe that it is important to “take care of their people,” many of whom are lifelong employees.

A global car manufacturer is going to open a new facility in the community. It is likely the company will offer higher salaries and better benefits than offered by Arrow Furniture. The firm is known to offer such benefits in an attempt to reduce the need for a union. Jobs at this plant will be more technically advanced than those at Arrow and the company is offering job training to those who are interested.

The Bakers are aware that the nature of work at Arrow results in moderate levels of hygiene factors and low motivators.

Using the 3-Step Problem-Solving Approach and the Organizing Framework, what should the Bakers do to motivate their employees and get support for the company’s future plans?

2. Review the following conversation:

Marcy: Dana, can I talk to you for a couple of minutes? We’ve been roommates for two years and I think I have a time management problem. I just don’t get enough done in a day. What do you think?

Dana: Tell me more. How did you decide that you have a problem?

Marcy: I never get everything done on my to-do list. The more I get done, the more I end up adding to the list.

Dana: What would solving the problem look like to you?

Marcy: Well, I’d get everything done on my list.

Dana: Is that realistic?

Marcy: It’s not, but what else am I going to do?

Dana: What else can you do that will help? Can you work with an advisor? Use a scheduling program?

This is an example of coaching. Describe the process of coaching and explain why is it important for managers to be effective coaches.

i have a music assignment and i post the instruction needed to complete it

Option 2: Movie Review

View one of the movies listed below, or any other fictionalized film about the life of a popular music musician or band (not a live concert, documentary, or satire). the goal of this paper is to allow you to analyze how historiography is an ongoing process largely influenced by the news media 2

Purpose of the Paper (Examining the Production of Contemporary Historiography) – The goal

of this paper is to allow you to analyze how “historiography” is an ongoing process largely

influenced by the news media. History is a subjectively generated product. History incorporates

the biases and viewpoints of those who produce it. The news media today is a key source in

providing us with “meaning” connected to newsworthy “historical” events. In fact, the news

media is in fact a major part of the process that generates “history.” Although news media

reporters and editors frequently claim that they are presenting “just the facts,” the way in which

these “facts” are presented often carry a number of biases that strongly influence public

perception and interpretations of current events.

For this assignment, you are going to pick a specific, single international event and examine how

this event is presented by different news media sources from around the globe. You are being

asked to compare the articles you have selected for this assignment and discuss how the differing

ways in which the event you have chosen actually reflects more than the “plain” facts, but rather

reveals complex layers of social values, assumptions, biases, beliefs and meanings by each of

your articles’ authors.

Selecting a Topic

1) First, select a single international news event that has occurred in the past 60 days. Since the

purpose of the paper is to address international issues, the event you select for this assignment

must have occurred OUTSIDE of the United States (although the issue may INCLUDE the US

as one of the agents involved). There are numerous current news issues to choose from, but for

this project I strongly suggest that you choose an event of a political or social nature.

If you are struggling to find a topic for this paper, you may want to check out respected news

sources online such a CNN, BBC, Al-Jazeera, etc. to get a sense of current news events that are

relevant to this assignment.

2) Your topic should be a single, recent event, not an ongoing issue. For example, you might

choose to discuss a recent, single action that took place in Yemen or Afghanistan or Syria or the

Central African Republic, or Palestine, etc., but you may NOT choose the overall, ongoing

violence in Yemen or Afghanistan or Syria or The Central African Republic, or Palestine, etc., as

your topic. For example, you could choose a single, recent protest, or meeting or act of violence

that has recently occurred in Syria as your event for this paper, but you may not choose the

overall ongoing civil war in Syria as your topic. A recent election (outside of the US), a newly

approved law or act of legislation (outside of the US), an international political meeting, the

signing of a treaty or international agreement, a single act of violence, a recent missile test, a

recent day of protest or a recent military action that took place on a single day would all be

possible topics for this paper. However, any paper that tries to address the entirety of the Syrian

civil war, war refugees, peace in the Middle East, Aids in Africa, poverty in India, international

human rights, human trafficking in Southeast Asia or drug trafficking in Mexico, etc. are all too

broad for this assignment and are not appropriate topics for this class. You need to choose

something much smaller – a single action or event that occurred on a specific day – as a topic for

this assignment. For example, you could pick some relatively small, particular portion of an

issue to focus on, such as a reaction to a controversial law that has just been passed, or a

particular act of violence that recently occurred, or a recent meeting between heads of state or a

recent foreign election, or a recent military intervention, etc. Also, please do not choose a

sporting event, a natural disaster, a health crisis or an outbreak of disease for this assignment.
