Papers must present a valid historiographical argument supported by secondary literature. Papers should include an introduction or abstract stating the goals of the paper; a body in which the argument is laid out and supported by sources; and a conclusion in which the findings are presented in a clear and concise manner. In addition, students must include a bibliography (not counted in the page count). The research paper must be a minimum of 7 pages (not counting the bibliography and the title page, which is NOT required). Bibliographical citations must appear in footnotes in Chicago style. Acceptable sources are academic books; and scholarly publications. Students may use primary sources such as audio recordings, biographies, diaries, private correspondence only after having consulted with the instructor. Popular websites such as Wikipedia and History.com are not acceptable sources. Papers should be formatted using 12pt, Times New Roman, double-spaced. Footnotes should follow the guidelines set by the Chicago Manual of Style
