Visit the United States of Health and Human Services website and research HIPAA Regulations & Standards as they apply to the medical records. Also, please see the information in Chapter 16 of your text.

1. Explain how HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules benefit the healthcare industry, patient, and physician.

Case Study: Alberto discovered that three people accessed the medical records of one of the local professional football team’s players, who has been brought to the physician’s office to follow up on injuries sustained in a car accident. He realizes that the information accessed was the results regarding the player’s blood alcohol level.

• What type of penalty is appropriate for those who accessed the information, if any?
