2.Our text states that “Hindus avoid food believed to hamper the development of the body or mental abilities”, which I think makes them healthier than others. To avoid alcohol saves the liver and kidneys, and the fasting can help rid the body of impurities that can lead to intestinal cancers. While I could not follow their strict diet, it seems to keep them lean as a culture so that heart disease is not an issue for them either. Our text also states that they regulate appetite and cravings, instead of bing eating as so many American do.
I think that we Roman Catholics many not be the healthiest. There are very few diet restrictions for us and we have lots of events that we celebrate with rich foods. We have large meals at Christmas, Easter, and even during lent we only give up red meat on Friday’s. Our text even gives an example that our fasting means skipping a lunch or two. While the Jewish has a Kosher style to make the quality of their food better for consumption, we Catholics embrace food within limits. Keep the body healthy as a temple by any means necessary without giving in to the sin of glutony.

3. Two religions that stuck out to me the most that were discussed in Chapter 4 were Islam and Mormon. Being from Las Vegas, I have tons of friends who grew up in the LDS community. One guideline that Mormons follow is to abstain from coffe, tea, drugs, and alcohol. I do understand the thought process behind this, as each one of those substances is known to be very addicting, which is what the LDS community tries to stir their members away from. This is to help ensure the members of LDS community are not tempted by such addictive substances, that could intern lead them to an unhealthy lifestyle. Before reading the chapter and listening to the modules I did not know that much about the Islamic religion, or their guidelines. In the book, Kittle states, “Those who partake in the Islamic religion leat for survival instead of self indulgence, Muslims are able to avoid eating foods which may be harmful to one’s health” (page 98). This shows that the Islamic community tends to stay away from foods that could be fatal to one’s health such as junk food, fast food, or processed food.
While reading over the chapter I felt that fasting of the Roman Catholics can be very unhealthy. Their fasting consist of only eating one full meal a day at midday. This can not be healthy because it deprives your body of the nutrients that it needs and the proper intake of food you should be receiving. I know many religions also practice Lent, which is “giving up” something from either your diet or your lifestyle for a certain time period. I feel lent is a healthy alternative to a complete fast, because that way you are only cutting out one substance that you feel is unhealthy for your body, not complete meals that your body needs throughout the day.
The religion I feel has the healthiest participants would be the Mormon religion. Abstaining from coffe, tea, alcohol, and drugs can only be beneficial for your health, especially with each being addictive. Though I do believe in moderation, I see no negative downfall for your health to cut these substances from your life.
